Two doctoral theses published online

The respective dissertations by Martina Diaz and Martin Gantner on timber structures in Italy and Switzerland are now available in the Research Collection.

The dissertation by Martin Gantner is entitled "Ein Landkirchenschema für das Dach? Entwicklungen im Dachwerksbau über katholischen Saalkirchen der Zentral-, Nord- und Ostschweiz von 1600 bis 1850" and deals with roof structure constructions. As part of his dissertation project, Martin Gantner surveyed and documented 101 roof structures in rural and urban areas. The dissertation is part of the SNSF project "Evolution of the wide-span timber roof in northern and central Switzerland 1600–1850", in which a paper on Reformed church construction by Jasmin Schäfer has already been published.

Martina Diaz's dissertation is entitled "Le Sovracupole Lignee Della Basilica Di Sant'antonio A Padova: Analisi Costruttive E Datazioni" and examines the construction and dating of the timber domes in the Basilica of St. Anthony in Padua. Martina Diaz has spent the last few years conducting intensive research in Padua and was able to make a valuable contribution to the construction history of the Basilica of St. Anthony in Padua as part of the SNSF project "The Basilica of St Anthony in Padua:Deciphering the building history of a landmark pilgrimage church".
