Section through the point cloud of the Stockholm Public Library (Patrick Flemming / Petronella Mill, 2022)

The competition encourages researchers working in Switzerland to present their works to the public and the media. As part of Patrick Fleming’s SNSF-funded Ambizione research project on Erik Gunnar Asplund’s Stockholm Public Library, the winning image was produced from over 1200 laser scans throughout and around the library. The resultant 3D point cloud computer model of the library totals just over 15 billion points, and represents the most thorough and comprehensive record ever produced of the landmark building. The jury emphasized the entry’s “astounding level of detail” and for “paving new avenues in science and cultural visualisation”. The awards will be presented at the external page Biel Festival of Photography this month.
