European Heritage Days 2019: Colours
Together with the ETH Library, the Institute for Historic Building Research and Conservation is organising guided tours, lectures and a workshop for children on the topic "University area: The former chemistry building of ETH Zurich" on Sunday, 15 September 2019.
The former chemistry building of the ETH Zurich, built in 1886, was the home of modernity: decisive architecture and innovative research came together in what is now a listed building. The holdings of the collections and archives of ETH Zurich tell of this historically important place: Where was the Institute of Photography, where Professor Barbieri experimented with emerging colour photography at the beginning of the 20th century? What influence did research into dye and textile chemistry have on the newly emerging Swiss and German paint industries? On this day, you can also learn more about the pioneering role of exposed brick construction by architects Bluntschli and Lasius, about the different types and colours of brick, or how ETH Zurich's current materials research is copying new processes for the production of bright and sustainable colours for beetles and butterflies. Experts will accompany you through this colourful day!
The special theme day "University area: The former chemistry building of ETH Zurich" will take place on Sunday, 15 September 2019 in the former chemistry building of ETH Zurich at Universitätsstrasse 6 (trams 6, 9 and 10 to the stop "ETH/Universitätsspital") from 10.00 to 16.00 hrs.
