Project "Sichtbackstein in Zürich (1884–1914)"

The Institute of Historic Building Research and Conservation is starting a new research project on visible brick in Zürich from the end of the 19th to the beginning of the 20th century. The project is supported by the Stiftung zur Förderung der Denkmalpflege and is planned for the year 2018.

During a short period around the turn of the century, exposed brick as a facade material was able to gain significance in Switzerland and Zurich as a material for the urban landscape. The project is now to carry out an inventory of this extensive building stock in the form of an inventory and to follow up on the design and manufacturing fundamentals. The focus is on buildings from the period between 1884 (construction of the ETH chemical building by F. Bluntschli and G. Lasius) and 1914.

Further information on the project can be found under reserach projects (available only in german).
