The new Chair of Construction Heritage and Preservation will focus increasingly on the conservation and use of younger architectural monuments and collections and on the further development of the theory of preservation. For the IDB, the appointment of Silke Langenberg thus means a significant strengthening and expansion of the established competence spectrum.

Silke Langenberg has been Professor for Building in Existing Contexts, Preservation of Historical Monuments and Building Research at the University of Applied Sciences in Munich since 2014. Prior to this, she had already worked for many years at the ETH Zurich at the Institute for Preservation and Building Research and the Institute for Technology in Architecture. She is chairwoman of the Architekturmuseum of the TU München, member of the Swiss Engineers and Architects Association (SIA section Zurich) as well as in numerous scientific associations (including ICOMOS International and ICOMOS Suisse, working group theory and teaching of monument preservation, Swiss heritage protection, DOCOMOMO etc.). Silke Langenberg's appointment thus also means a strengthening of the interdisciplinary networking of various disciplines and institutions leading in the field of monument conservation.

The continuation of the Friday Colloquia will therefore be taken over by the Langenberg Chair with immediate effect and – after consultation with all the cooperation partners involved – is to take place again from the end of 2020/beginning of 2021.

The Holzer Chair welcomes Silke Langenberg and her team to ETH Zurich and wishes the new chair a successful start.
